Under Greg Franta’s leadership, RMI’s Built Environment Team has been recognized as an international leader in designing sustainable, high-performance buildings and communities.
Since the early 1970’s, Greg has pioneered environmentally sustainable architecture
resulting in successful “green” buildings throughout the world.
Greg is directing the Built Environment Team’s “Cooling the Warming” initiative, including the recently released film “High Performance Building Perspectives and Practice” in partnership with the United States Green Building Council. Additionally, as part of “Cooling the Warming”, Greg will be co-authoring a book on built environment.
Background
Greg has consulted on projects ranging from the development of sustainable cities, neighborhoods, and college campuses to the design of schools, offices, and retail complexes. His work spans North Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and South America.
Before joining Rocky Mountain Institute, Greg founded and led ENSAR Group in providing services on over 800 energy efficient and environmentally sound projects, including community and large-scale developments, offices, laboratories, educational buildings, health facilities, libraries, homes (including the White House), and other buildings – many considered the most energy efficient in the U.S.
Greg has been instrumental in developing new environmental resources and design methodologies for architects. During the 90’s, he participated in the development of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program.
