Starbucks Corporation, Hillsboro Retail Store — Hillsboro (West Portland), Oregon

Moderate alterations to corporate design standards enabled the Hillsboro Starbucks store to earn a LEED Gold rating under the Commercial Interiors Rating System. While most of the company’s stores use energy-efficient lighting and cabinets with 90 percent post-industrial recycled content, the Hillsboro store contains additional recycled materials and increased energy-efficiency measures. Because Starbucks recognizes the competitive advantage of high-performance operations, the store also served as part of their collaboration with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to create a LEED rating process targeting retail properties.
